LG is trying not to change their tradition and once again shows how great a role played by each unit of South Korean giant in the design of a new product. After LG Display has announced the world’s first flexible display OLED, it is the turn LG Chem, which is currently being introduced flexible battery.
According to LG Chem, this development will be used in the next generation of smart phones LG. Using proprietary technology «Stack and Folding» pioneer of the Korean market lithium-ion battery hopes to become a versatile manufacturer of batteries for smart phones, as well as “smart” glasses and watches.
In addition to flexible batteries LG announced two other types: Stepped Battery and Cable Battery. According to the manufacturer, Stepped Battery used in the flagship smartphone G2 and provides 16% more energy compared with existing analogues. Flexible battery in the form of cables (shown in photo above), in the future it will be possible to integrate accessories, items of clothing and even fabric.
It is worth noting that the first details of the data were published Battery resource Phys.org more than a year ago (picture above). The anode in the battery acts copper wire coiled into a spiral and covered with a thin layer of nickel alloy. Applied on top of the spiral has two layers – the sharing and composite, the second plays the role of the cathode. This structure is covered with an insulating material and is located inside the electrolyte. It should be noted that Cable Battery has quite a large capacity (shown last year a prototype length of 25 cm was able to provide energy LED display, and iPod Shuffle), and it can be in the literal sense of the word tie a knot.
According to LG Chem, the mass production of flexible batteries in the form of cables will begin in a few years.
