Samsung has today announced a new eight-core Exynos chip with an index of 5 Octa 5420. According to the Korean manufacturer, compared with the first eight-core processor (5410) capacity has increased by 20%, the graphics capabilities – 2 times.
There will also be used architecture big. LITTLE – 4 cores for background and simple tasks and 4 cores for “heavy” games and applications. However, compared with the increased clock frequency of 5410 – from 1.6 to 1.8 GHz in the “core” Cortex-A15 nuclei and from 1.2 to 1.3 GHz with Cortex-A7.
The second major change is the graphics. The new six-core chip is used accelerator ARM Mali-T628, which gives a two-time increase in power compared to the graphics chip Exynos 5410. The accelerator supports both OpenGL ES 3.0 and Full Profile Open CL 1.1.
5 Octa Exynos 5420 supports displays with resolutions up to 2500 by 1600 pixels, Full HD Wi-Fi displays, Full HD video recording and playback video at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second. It uses a dual-channel memory LPDDR3 with frequency 933 MHz and a transmission rate of 14.9 GB per second.
Samsung says that the mass production of chips will begin in August. This is almost a direct confirmation of the fact that this processor will be the “heart” of new GALAXY Note III , announcement will take place at the end of August or beginning of September. Recall that the first generation eight-core Samsung Exynos processor was presented shortly before the presentation GALAXY S4.
