National Design Museum Cooper-Hewitt in New York, included in the collection designed in 2011 Planetary app for the iPad. Keepers of the Arts said that the program is interesting as “sample generative graphic design of the early 21st century”.

Cooper-Hewitt published the source code for Planetary (application is written in C + +) on the service GitHub. Everyone is welcome to read it and use involved in the development program for its own purposes. The initiators of the project say that it will keep the app in the “live” format.

Cooper-Hewitt is the only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design, as well as the world’s largest collection of arts and crafts. According to the museum, modernity poses in front of the cultural task of preserving objects that exist not only in the physical but also in the digitally.

Planetary intended for “music visualization” from the library iPad. Visualization is performed in the space key: implementing the program displays in the form of stars, albums – in the form of planets, and the individual tracks – in the form of planetary satellites. The application was developed in 2011 by the studio Bloom.

Planetary – not the first transformation program in the museum exhibit. Thus, the collection of the Computer History Museum in California includes the source code of the first version of the graphic editor Photoshop, and the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City – 14 video games, including “Tetris” and Pac-Man.
