At the core of the invention – the material ytterbium, cooled to a temperature of 10 mK, which is a few millionths of a degree above absolute zero, and a laser with a wavelength of 578 nanometers. Atomic clocks, due to its accuracy, can be used to study the effect of gravity on time, but the current model has the size of a large dining table and scientists have to find a way to reduce it to the possibility of installing a satellite or spacecraft.
